Where To: Old Montreal’s Joverse #mtlnightlife

avril 17, 2014

Nearly a year ago, I had anticipated that Joverse would be one of the hot, new places to look out for in Montreal. Aside from the fact that I’m happy I’m usually right (don’t hate), I’m even happier this resto-bar delivered on many levels.

If you head to Joverse on a Friday or Saturday night, the giant rooster painted on the side of the building will greet you, along with some of the nicest doormen I’ve ever encountered in Montreal. A Montreal bar that places importance on customer service right at the door by chatting and smiling – how novel and so very refreshing!

Inside, the brick walls and the ever-popular industrial look certainly do justice to the Old Montreal location. With long tables, booths, a big bar in the middle, Joverse is well equipped to handle groups. It’s perfect if you’re looking to eat well, then mingle and dance a little amid a crowd of good looking people in their mid-twenties to early thirties. Say it with me now: “yay for not feeling too old at a bar.”

During the last visit, we devoured some shrimp and some brisket BBQ tacos. They were so flavorful, we made a mental note to return for Joverse’s Taco Tuesdays Ritual and to try everything else on the appetizing menu as soon as possible. The music in the main room is a good mix of mainstream hits and house mashups. If you’re looking for a more underground vibe, head to Joverse’s “Red Room” just downstairs for some deep house and sweaty dancing.

On Thursdays, one of my favorite nights of the week for an outing, Joverse offers up a nice crowd of 5à7 diners. As the evening rolls along and the music turns to some delicious, older R&B hits, many other professionals start showing up for drinks. You’ll want to stay past your bedtime and try some of their special cocktails. As if that wasn’t enough, Joverse also hosts mixology competitions on Wednesdays. Hello mid-week date ideas. You’re welcome, dear readers.

Go with a group on the weekend or even with someone cute during the week; you’ll be treated to an amazing atmosphere, good music, cocktails and food at Joverse. Like anywhere in Montreal, make reservations if you’d like to eat, and if you’re on a liquid diet, show up early to avoid lineups on the weekend.
