Where to: Griffintown's Rufus Rockhead Bar #nightlife

mai 29, 2014

Are we tired of hearing about Griffintown revival yet? Nope. Are we still excited when new places in the area turn out to be great? Absolutely!  So, allow me to enthusiastically introduce you to or remind you of the Rufus Rockhead bar. “Who??”, your friends will surely ask. Rufus Rockhead, just say it slowly!

Rufus Rockhead is cozily nestled between Shinji, a Japanese restaurant by the same owner (Jeff Stinco from Simple Plan), and Grinder, Griffintown’s super sizzling hot spot. As much as I like the industrial, rustic, distressed decor that’s been ubiquitous in Montreal bars and restaurants, it’s refreshing to see an ultra modern, cool, yet warm look at Rufus Rockhead. This bar is deceivingly quite large with 2 floors and 3 different rooms, but maintains a laidback yet bustling atmosphere on the weekends.

You can pick from a short list of tasty cocktails; I opted for the Ma Chérie drink made up of vodka, strawberry purée and sparkling wine. Not only was it delicious and potent, but it also came in a champagne flute (even when I’m not trying to be fancy, I inadvertently end up that way. Why fight it?) You can grab a little cozy table and have great service. There’s also a short menu of comfort food to munch on. You can see the chefs prep the food if you’re seated close enough to their little kitchen behind a glass window and stare at them awkwardly and/or lovingly.

The music is a bit of a mixed bag on the weekend, but it gets the crowd of late twentysomethings going. Rufus Rockhead has been doing well for 5à7s too, but I quite like it for a date. If you’re there before 11, the music isn’t too loud and it’s not so dark that you can’t see who you’re with, but that’s assuming you do want to see their face. Rufus Rockhead is now my go-to local bar!
