Book Review: Me Before You #goodreads #uglycryface

août 14, 2014

Every now and then, I like a good romance novel without resorting to Nicholas Sparks’ predictability and without succumbing to the latest, poorly written trendy trilogy. The perfect alternative? British novelist Jojo Moyes’ books.

I recently binge read Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You in a single sitting. Keep in mind I was off that week and simply wanted to treat myself to an easy, well written book. Mission accomplished; I couldn’t put it down for hours. Page after page left me wanting to find out what was going to happen and left me smiling at the progression of Louisa Clark and Will Traynor’s relationship.

Louisa loses her job at a coffee shop and really isn’t qualified for much else. She reluctantly applies to be a caregiver to a young and of course, handsome wheelchair-bound Will. Louisa isn’t very adventurous and rather broke, whereas rich Will lived a life full of excitement and travels before his accident. Like any good cliché, they are opposites who dislike each other at first, but then learn a tremendous deal from one another. Although their relationship is slightly predictable, the writing is relatable and sharp. It becomes more than a romance novel, but one about life, happiness and tribulations. The characters’ bond, humor, adventures and personality will draw you in, make you laugh and trust me, they’ll also make you sob. I mean the ugly cry face kind. So take off that mascara and happy reading.
