Keeping warm and supporting our athletes

Hey there!
You may or may not be watching the Olympic games this winter, but you can’t escape them, especially not in this wintery country of ours. Whether it’s the strange news about the hotel living conditions in Sochi, or the latest winners on top of the podium, the Olympics are trending big time.

The Bay has found a way for any Canadian to be directly involved in the great achievement of our athletes: red mittens! When you purchase a pair of these 10$ red mittens, 3.33$ goes straight to our athletes via the Canadian Olympic Foundation.

In 2010, over 3.5 million pairs of mittens were sold during their first campaign, providing the foundation with 14 million dollars. The campaign was a huge hit, and it continues to be so this year. Lately, you can’t leave your home without seeing at least one person sporting this hip winter accessory. Did I mention they come in sizes for all ages? Baby, mom and grandma can be sporting them!

How does this money help Canadian athletes? The foundation provides them with scholarships and coaching incentives. Money is also provided to Canadian sporting competitions like the Canada Games, an important event for athletes to determine their ranking. There’s also an incentive to win Olympic medals. The foundation offers monetary prizes to Canadian athletes that bring home the gold, silver or bronze. It’s pretty cool to think that your little mittens will help all of this to happen.
I never truly appreciated the discipline that Olympic athletes have until I started putting more effort into taking care of my own fitness. Athletes put in their time, their hard work, and their dedication in hopes of becoming the best in the world.
It’s great to be able to support and encourage them by keeping our hands warm and trendy J!
